Customer-Led Innovation: Evolving Our Preservation System

We’re delighted to share a thoughtful update to our emulsion formulations at Perception Skin.

While we believe phenoxyethanol to be a safe and reliable preservative (when used at less than <1% and externally), many of our community members have expressed a preference for naturally derived alternatives.

As a long-standing holistic health enthusiast and certified natural health consultant, I have no excessive concerns about phenoxyethanol when it is used at controlled levels. In our emulsion (water & oil) formulations, it is included at around 0.5%, which is well within safe and effective limits. I would never feel comfortable promoting a product that I believed posed a genuine risk to human health.

That said, we’ve listened to our community and are excited to make a shift toward a plant-derived preservative system featuring gentle glyceryl esters. This modern system is effective, safe, and beautifully aligned with our minimal, nature-focused organic approach to skincare.

Why We’re Making This Change

This update is inspired by you, our community. Many of you have shared that you feel more comfortable with naturally sourced ingredients, and we want your experience with Perception Skin to reflect your values as closely as possible.

As we enter our second year, some of our emulsion formulations, such as our Creamy Cleanser and Organic Shea Hyaluronic Moisturiser, are evolving to include this new preservative system. After extensive research, we found a solution that aligns perfectly with our brand ethos:

• Gentle on the skin

• Suitable for sensitive and mature skin

• Fully effective at keeping products safe and stable

We are updating our formulations to meet the values and preferences of both our existing clients and new customers alike, ensuring every product is aligned with what our community expects from a Slow Beauty, plant-powered skincare brand.
